VMware Cloud

My Role: Product Designer

Scope: Full-time job · 3+ years · Commerce & Lifecycle Management Domain Expert

Tools: Figma · Miro

Practices: User Research · End-to-end Design · Cross-functional collaboration

Overview

I joined the VMware Cloud design team as a summer intern in 2020 and returned to the same team as a product designer. Currently, I am dedicated to enhancing various components of the customer's SaaS commerce experience on VMC. This involves designing seamless onboarding, purchasing, and management flows, as well as integrating new hyper-scaler partner offerings. Following Broadcom acquisition, my latest work involved leading the commerce experience design for both on-premises and cloud experience for VMware Cloud Foundation(VCF), VMware’s most profitable product suite till the day.

In my second focus area, I specialize in the lifecycle management domain. Here, I have designed innovative features that support operators and SREs in their daily tasks, ensuring the stability and reliability of data centers for our customers.

Throughout my tenure at VMware, I have demonstrated versatility by working independently on end-to-end design for new product features and collaboratively with senior designers on MVPs for larger initiatives.

Key Project Snapshots

Below are snapshots of some of my design work at VMware. Due to NDA restrictions, I can't share details of my latest unreleased projects here, but I’d be happy to walk you through them during a portfolio review.

Project 1: Usage Budget

The "Usage Management Budgets" tool is a 1-N feature addition that enhances customers' visibility and control over their subscriptions. By analyzing 200+ survey results and conducting 20+ user interviews, we identified transparency in usage as a key priority.

The new usage budget feature allows users to set their own overage alert thresholds, leading to a 40% reduction in support tickets and a 25% increase in user satisfaction. Users can now proactively manage their subscriptions, receiving customized notifications instead of passive overage warnings.

Project 2: SDDC Timeline

SDDC Timeline is a new tool designed to provide a consolidated timeline view of all the operations on an SDDC (Software Defined Data Center) aimed to improve efficiency of internal SREs’ incident response process, thus ensuring stable services at customer end.

The end design was highly praised by internal stakeholders and SREs as it decreased portal switching efforts from 7 to 1. Within the first 6 months of MVP launched, 4 entry points were set up in various portals and 10 teams on-boarded the new tool.

Project 3: Google Cloud VMware Engine MVP

In response to customer growth, VMware considered offering GCVE(Google Cloud VMware Engine) on VMware Cloud Console a key business goal. I designed and delivered the 0-1 experience for onboarding, configuring, and purchasing GCVE within the VMware Cloud Console.

The MVP design crafted officially launched April 2022 as showcased in the demo video. Check out VMware official launch announcement.

Other Involvements

  1. Crafted internal design resources sharing platform collaboratively with design system team during 1-week long design Hackathon

  2. Super-Collider Onboarding (3-month Intern/Individually) — Led extensive user research with 10 internal teams and designed on-boarding experience for data analytic platform named Super-Collider
